WETEX 2026 Maps Dubai’s Sustainable Mobility Future

WETEX 2026 will examine sustainable mobility as an interconnected system spanning vehicles, energy sources, charging and refuelling infrastructure, fleet management, electricity networks and digital platforms (DEWA media release). Dubai Electricity and Water Authority will organise WETEX 2026 at Dubai World Trade Centre from 20 to 22 October 2026 (DEWA media release). The WETEX 2026 Green Mobility Zone will place electric vehicles, hydrogen vehicles, charging technologies and fleet-management solutions in one venue for transport operators, utilities, investors and technology providers (DEWA media release). Global electric-vehicle sales rose by 20% to more than 20 million units in 2025, equal to one quarter of new-car sales worldwide (IEA Global EV Outlook 2026, cited by DEWA). The International Energy Agency expects 23 million electric cars to be sold globally in 2026, representing 28% of total car sales (IEA Global EV Outlook 2026, cited by DEWA).

Charging capacity is a central theme for WETEX 2026 because electric-mobility growth requires attention to charging speed, station distribution, grid-load management and intensive fleet operations (DEWA media release). Public charging points worldwide exceeded seven million at the end of 2025, after annual growth of more than 33% (IEA Global EV Outlook 2026, cited by DEWA). Dubai had 2,223 electric-vehicle charging points by the first quarter of 2026, while Dubai’s registered electric-vehicle population reached 47,944 at the end of 2025, compared with 37,486 one year earlier—an increase of more than 10,000 vehicles, or nearly 28% (DEWA media release). Vehicle-to-grid technology could allow compatible electric vehicles to return stored electricity to power networks, although broader deployment still depends on vehicle compatibility, technical standards, regulation and workable business models (DEWA media release).

Fleet electrification provides another focus for Dubai’s sustainable-mobility programme (DEWA media release). DEWA and Dubai Taxi Company inaugurated the first phase of an ultra-fast charging hub containing 24 charging points rated at 360kW each; the hub can serve 24 vehicles simultaneously in about 35 minutes (DEWA media release). A strategic agreement signed by DEWA and Dubai Taxi Company at WETEX 2025 covers the deployment of more than 200 ultra-fast charging points for the Dubai Taxi Company fleet (DEWA media release). Dubai Roads and Transport Authority aims to convert Dubai’s entire public-bus fleet to electric and hydrogen power by 2050 (DEWA media release). DEWA’s Green Hydrogen project at Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park produces hydrogen using solar energy, with part of the output used to refuel hydrogen vehicles at an ENOC station in Expo City Dubai (DEWA media release).
