25terms you'll meet importing a Chinese EV.
From CLTC vs WLTP to Salik to Bill of Lading — the vocabulary you'll see across /process, /service, our blog posts, and the contract you'll sign on Day 3. Each entry defined once, cited everywhere.
Brand & Model
NIO ET5T· 蔚来 ET5T
- Touring (estate) variant of the NIO ET5 sedan launched in 2023. 75 kWh standard / 100 kWh long-range battery, CLTC range 560 km / 730 km, rear-wheel-drive single-motor 240 kW or all-wheel-drive dual-motor 360 kW. Battery-swap compatible at any NIO Power Swap Station. The most common Chinese-market sedan EVPlus imports to the UAE — 96 of 240 listings on evplus.ae as of May 2026.
ZEEKR 001· 极氪 001
- Flagship shooting-brake from Geely's premium EV arm, launched 2021. 100 kWh nominal pack, CLTC range up to 741 km, dual-motor 400 kW. Sits one tier above the ET5T on price, one tier below on running-cost. ZEEKR's brand-positioning is 'tech luxury' — closer to Polestar than to NIO.
ZEEKR 7X· 极氪 7X
- ZEEKR's mid-size SUV launched 2024 on Geely's SEA platform. CLTC range up to ~780 km, 800V architecture for fast DC charging, dual-motor performance trims. Slots between the 001 shooting-brake and the larger 009 MPV in ZEEKR's UAE-import lineup.
Changan Deepal S07· 深蓝 S07
- Changan Deepal's mainstream SUV, offered as extended-range (EREV) or pure-electric - pure-EV CLTC range around 620 km. Deepal launched officially in the UAE in 2024 via Al Tayer Motors (Dubai + Abu Dhabi showrooms), so parts and service are more established than most Chinese imports. Sized and priced against the Tesla Model Y.
Avatr 11· 阿维塔 11
- Coupe-SUV flagship of the Changan + Huawei + CATL alliance, launched 2022. CLTC range roughly 555-680 km by trim, dual-motor up to 425 kW, Huawei ADS advanced driver-assist. Competes with the BMW iX / Mercedes EQE in Dubai at a fraction of the price.
Xiaomi SU7· 小米 SU7
- Xiaomi's first car, launched 2024. 73 kWh / 94 kWh / 101 kWh battery options, CLTC range 700–830 km, rear-wheel-drive 220 kW standard or all-wheel-drive 495 kW Max. Xiaomi HyperOS integration with phones is the headline feature. Demand-supply gap inside China keeps used-market premiums elevated; expect 12–18 month wait on a Max variant.
BYD Han EV(Han)· 比亚迪 汉EV
- BYD's executive sedan launched 2020. 76.9 kWh / 85.4 kWh Blade Battery (LFP), CLTC range 506–701 km. The Han is BYD's halo product in the saloon segment, sitting against the Tesla Model 3 / NIO ET5T on size and the Mercedes E-Class on positioning. Strong service-network advantage in the Gulf already.
Battery & EV Tech
BaaS(Battery as a Service)· 电池租赁服务
- NIO's optional ownership model: buy the car without its battery for AED 70–80k off the sticker, then pay AED 1,200–2,000 per month for battery rental + unlimited swap-station access. EVPlus does not currently import BaaS-only NIOs to UAE — Chinese BaaS contracts are not transferable across borders, so all NIOs landed in Dubai carry the battery outright.
CLTC(China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle)· 中国轻型汽车行驶工况
- Range certification standard used by the Chinese Ministry of Industry & Information Technology since 2021, replacing the older NEDC cycle. CLTC numbers tend to be 10–18% more optimistic than WLTP (the European standard) for the same car. EVPlus shows CLTC numbers as published by the manufacturer; expect ~85% of CLTC in real Dubai driving conditions with AC on.
WLTP(Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure)· 全球统一轻型车辆测试程序
- European range certification standard, used by all UAE-spec Tesla, BMW, Mercedes, and Audi EVs. To compare a Chinese-market CLTC number against a Tesla WLTP number, deduct roughly 15% from the CLTC figure first. EVPlus blog post 'NIO ET5T vs Tesla Model 3 Dubai' walks through this conversion in detail.
SOH(State of Health)· 电池健康度
- Percentage of original battery capacity remaining. A 75 kWh pack at SOH 92% holds 69 kWh. EVPlus guarantees SOH ≥ 90% at delivery for every car landed; the inspection report includes a SOH certification from an authorised testing partner in mainland China before the Tianjin export plates are pulled.
BMS(Battery Management System)· 电池管理系统
- The on-board electronics that monitor and balance individual cells inside the high-voltage battery. EVPlus's pre-purchase battery audit pulls 30 days of BMS logs from the seller's NIO / ZEEKR / Xiaomi account to detect cell imbalance, thermal events, or false SOH readings before issuing the reservation contract.
NEV(New Energy Vehicle)· 新能源车
- Chinese regulatory category covering battery-electric (BEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and fuel-cell (FCEV) cars. EVPlus's inventory is 100% BEV — we do not import PHEVs because PHEV demand in the UAE is satisfied by EU-spec models already in showrooms.
800V architecture(800-volt platform)· 800V 高压平台
- An EV electrical platform running at roughly 800 volts instead of the older 400 V, which roughly halves charging current for the same power and enables much faster DC charging - often a 10-80% top-up in 15-25 minutes on a capable charger. ZEEKR 001/007/7X and Xiaomi SU7 use 800V-class systems; many BYD and entry trims remain 400V. In UAE heat the practical benefit is capped by charger output and by thermal throttling above ~45C ambient, so 800V helps most in cooler hours or on preconditioned packs.
NOA(Navigate on Autopilot)· 导航辅助驾驶
- Point-to-point navigation-assisted driving - the feature that follows a set route on highways and, in city NOA, on urban roads, handling on-ramps, lane changes and exits under driver supervision. Branded NIO NOP+, XPeng XNGP, Huawei ADS and Xiaomi NOA. It depends on China high-definition maps and the carmaker's servers, so on a UAE grey import NOA is usually region-locked and inoperative, even though the underlying car is SAE Level 2. See our ADAS-in-the-UAE guide.
Thermal management(battery liquid cooling)· 电池热管理
- The system that keeps an EV battery within its safe and efficient temperature window - on every Chinese EV EVPlus imports, this is active liquid cooling. In the UAE it is the single most important reliability feature: it handles normal 50C driving heat at the cells, and preconditioning (cooling the pack before a DC fast charge while still plugged in) restores charge speed that would otherwise be throttled above ~45C ambient. Air-cooled packs, common on older budget EVs, are the historic cause of fast hot-climate degradation.
IP67 / IP68(ingress protection rating)· IP67 / IP68 防护等级
- The ingress-protection rating of an EV high-voltage battery pack. IP67 - the manufacturer minimum - means fully dust-tight (sand cannot reach the cells) and protected against temporary immersion to 1 metre; many premium packs reach IP68. For UAE buyers the relevant point is that fine desert sand and dust do not penetrate an IP67 pack enclosure, so the battery casing is not the desert weak point - cabin and cooling-system air filters and underbody exposure matter more for day-to-day upkeep.
OTA region-lock(China-region software lock)· OTA 区域锁
- Chinese EVs built for the domestic market route over-the-air (OTA) software updates and map services through Chinese servers and Baidu/AutoNavi mapping, tied to the China (CN) region. On a UAE grey import this means native navigation and map-dependent assisted driving (NOA) often arrive locked, while self-contained functions (ACC, lane-keep, AEB) still work. Full localization needs map replacement, UI conversion and OTA migration; since April 2025 China's MIIT also requires approval before OTA updates that change driving functions. Many owners use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto for navigation instead.
EREV(Extended-Range EV / range extender)· 增程式电动车
- An extended-range electric vehicle whose wheels are ALWAYS driven by the electric motor; a small petrol engine acts purely as a generator to recharge the battery and never turns the wheels. It plugs in like a BEV but refuels like a petrol car, so it removes range anxiety on long UAE/cross-border drives where chargers are sparse. Chinese EREVs include the Li Auto L9 (~280 km electric + ~1,412 km total), Deepal S07 EREV (~215-285 km electric) and Avatr 11 EREV (~245 km electric). Ranges are CLTC and optimistic vs real-world.
PHEV(Plug-in Hybrid)· 插电式混合动力
- A plug-in hybrid has a battery you charge from a plug AND an engine that can drive the wheels directly - the key difference from an EREV, whose engine is only a generator. A PHEV runs electric for a short range (typically 40-80 km), then behaves like a normal hybrid once the battery depletes. BYD's DM-i cars (Song Plus DM-i, Seal U DM-i) are PHEVs. For UAE long-distance and cross-border drives, a PHEV - like an EREV - sidesteps charging-network gaps by refuelling with petrol.
HEV(Hybrid / self-charging hybrid)· 油电混合动力
- A conventional (self-charging) hybrid that you never plug in. It has a small battery topped up by regenerative braking and the engine, and uses the electric motor to assist the petrol engine for better fuel economy. Unlike a BEV, EREV or PHEV, an HEV cannot drive any meaningful distance on electricity alone and is not a 'new-energy vehicle' in the plug-in sense. EVPlus focuses on BEV and EREV Chinese imports rather than HEVs.
V2L(Vehicle-to-Load)· 对外放电
- Vehicle-to-Load lets an EV power external devices from its battery through a normal household-style socket or an adapter, effectively turning the car into a large mobile power bank. In the UAE it is a genuine lifestyle feature for desert camping, dune trips and outdoor majlis setups - running fridges, lights or cooking gear off the car. Many Chinese EVs (BYD, Li Auto, ZEEKR) offer V2L; output is typically 3-6 kW depending on model.
Regenerative braking(regen / one-pedal driving)· 动能回收
- When you lift off the accelerator or brake, an EV runs its motor in reverse as a generator, converting the car's momentum back into battery charge instead of wasting it as brake heat. Strong regen enables 'one-pedal driving' and recovers meaningful range on long downhill stretches - relevant on UAE mountain descents like Jebel Jais and Hatta. It also reduces brake-pad wear, since the friction brakes do far less work day to day.
Preconditioning(battery / cabin pre-cool)· 电池预处理
- Bringing the battery (and cabin) to an ideal temperature before driving or DC fast charging, usually while still plugged in so it draws from the wall rather than the pack. In UAE heat, pre-cooling the battery before a fast charge lets it accept high DC power without the thermal throttling that otherwise kicks in above ~45C ambient - so you get full charge speed and the climate prep costs no range. Most Chinese EVs trigger it automatically when you route to a charger, or manually via the app.
DEWA EV Green Charger(EV Green Charger Initiative)· DEWA 绿色充电桩(EV Green Charger)
- The EV Green Charger is DEWA's public charging network in Dubai, expanding toward roughly 10,000 charging points by end-2026 under an AED 2 billion programme (DEWA, 2026). Charging is free for the first 12 months of the initiative; afterwards published tariffs are about AED 0.29/kWh on 7kW AC, AED 0.48/kWh on 50kW DC, and AED 0.55/kWh on 150kW+ ultra-fast units (DEWA, 2026). Imported Chinese EVs charge here normally provided the connector (typically GB/T) is adapted to the CCS2/Type 2 standard DEWA uses.
12V Auxiliary Battery(12V battery)· 12V 辅助电瓶
- The 12V auxiliary battery powers an EV's locks, screens, and computers and is separate from the high-voltage traction pack. In UAE heat, where parked cabins reach about 70°C, the 12V fails markedly faster — extreme temperatures can age a battery up to roughly twice as fast as in cooler climates (The National, 2022; dialatire.ae, 2026). A flat 12V causes a dead-on-the-driveway lockout: doors and charge port may not open. It is jump-started like a petrol car's battery — never the high-voltage pack — though repeated low-voltage events can trigger a BMS module lockout needing dealer tools.
GB/T to CCS2 Adapter(GB/T-CCS2 DC adapter)· 国标转 CCS2 转换枪
- A GB/T to CCS2 adapter lets a Chinese-spec EV charge on UAE public DC fast chargers, because China uses the GB/T connector while the UAE standardised on CCS2 (XTeck, 2025). It matters for imported NIO, BYD, ZEEKR, Xiaomi, Changan/Avatr, Li Auto and XPeng cars, none of which ship with a native CCS2 port. Critically, DC and AC are separate ports on GB/T cars, so a DC adapter does not cover AC; a second Type 2 to GB/T cable is needed for AC wallboxes (Akyga, 2025). EVPlus advises confirming both adapters before delivery.
Dynamic Load Management (DLM)(dynamic load balancing; DLB)· 动态负载均衡
- Dynamic Load Management lets a home charger throttle its draw in real time so the main house fuse never trips, vital for a two-EV villa. Two 7 kW chargers running together pull roughly 64A, which can exceed a 60A main supply; a DLM charger uses a current-clamp to measure total house load and splits available current between cars in milliseconds (Zencar / DEFA, 2025). For UAE households adding a second imported EV, specifying DLM often avoids a costly three-phase or main-fuse upgrade while keeping both cars charging overnight.
Granny Charger(portable charger; ICCB)· 随车便携充电器(慢充枪)
- A granny charger is the portable cable that plugs into a standard wall socket, delivering only about 2.3-3 kW, or 8-16 km of range per hour (Feyree, 2025). In the UAE its main risk is heat: drawing 10-13A for 10+ hours stresses sockets, and a unit left in direct sun can throttle or shut down (EVChargerUAE, 2025). EVPlus treats it as a backup, not a daily method for an imported EV, and recommends a shaded socket, a quality thermally-protected unit, and ideally a proper wallbox or a villa's 32A outlet instead.
Battery State of Health Certificate(SOH certificate)· 电池健康度证书
- A State of Health (SOH) certificate states a used EV's current usable battery capacity as a percentage of its original capacity, the single most important number when buying a used EV (Recharged, 2025). The figure is read directly from the Battery Management System (BMS) via the OBD port, or measured over a controlled charge/discharge by providers like AVILOO and DEKRA (AVILOO, 2025; DEKRA, 2025). EVPlus obtains an SOH read before import so the buyer sees real remaining range, not a showroom estimate, on a grey-import car with no UAE dealer history.
Software Bricking / Failed OTA(soft-brick risk)· 软件变砖 / OTA 失败
- When an over-the-air (OTA) software update corrupts a vehicle's systems, disabling screens, instruments or features. A faulty Rivian OTA soft-bricked infotainment on about 3% of its cars before a fix (InsideEVs, 2023), and roughly 10% of Fisker owners reported updates that bricked their vehicles (Autoevolution, 2025). For grey-import Chinese EVs, a failed OTA is harder to recover without a local dealer, so EVPlus advises confirming a model's update track record and keeping a known-good software version before applying major updates.
V2L vs V2G(vehicle-to-load / vehicle-to-grid)· V2L(对外放电)与 V2G(车辆回馈电网)
- V2L (vehicle-to-load) lets an EV power external devices — tools, camping gear, a fridge on a desert trip — directly from the car, with no grid interaction; many Chinese EVs (BYD, Li, NIO) support it (Virta, 2025). V2G (vehicle-to-grid) feeds energy back into the utility grid. In Dubai, V2G exists only at select pilot locations and there is no formal residential V2G net-metering tariff yet (DEWA, 2025). For UAE buyers today, V2L is the genuinely usable feature; treat V2G as future-facing, not a current income source.
UAE Grid Carbon Mix· 阿联酋电网碳结构
- In 2025 the UAE generation mix was roughly 71% natural gas, 20% nuclear (Barakah, full 5.6 GW), 9% solar and about 1% oil (The National, 2025). This matters for "is a Chinese EV actually green in the UAE": charging is not coal-heavy as in some grids, and the gas-plus-nuclear-plus-solar base gives an imported EV a meaningfully lower well-to-wheel footprint than a petrol car here, even allowing for the UAE's cheap subsidised fuel. The nuclear and solar share is rising yearly, so the grid keeps getting cleaner.
UAE Regulation
RTA(Roads & Transport Authority)· 迪拜公路与运输管理局
- Dubai government body that registers every car operating on Dubai roads. EVPlus handles the full RTA process end-to-end: customs release form, Tasjeel inspection, ownership transfer, and first Dubai plates. Total elapsed time for the RTA segment is ~15 days, included in the 70-day reservation-to-driveway window.
Mulkiya· 车辆登记证
- UAE vehicle ownership certificate issued by RTA (or the equivalent emirate-level authority in Abu Dhabi / Sharjah). Comes as a credit-card-sized smart card with the owner's Emirates ID number, the plate number, and the chassis VIN. You receive your Mulkiya on delivery day along with both keys.
Salik· 迪拜路桥费
- Dubai's electronic road-toll system. Every car registered to a Dubai address needs a Salik tag (AED 100 one-off + AED 4–6 per gantry). EVPlus pairs a Salik tag at delivery if you don't already have one; first-year balance top-up is the customer's responsibility.
5% VAT(Value Added Tax)· 增值税
- Federal Tax Authority levies 5% VAT on the landed CIF value of every imported car, calculated after the 5% customs duty. The listed AED price on evplus.ae already includes both. There is no escape — even private-sale imports to UAE pay this; we just make it visible upfront instead of as a surprise at Tasjeel.
Tasjeel· 塔斯吉尔车检中心
- RTA-licensed vehicle inspection centre. Every imported car must pass a Tasjeel inspection (emissions, lights, brakes, chassis) before Dubai plates are issued. EVPlus books the Tasjeel slot, pays the fee from your AED price, and handles re-inspection if needed.
DEWA Green Charger· DEWA 绿色充电桩
- Dubai Electricity & Water Authority's public EV charging network. Over 1,000 outlets in 2026, primarily along Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, and inside major retail nodes (Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, City Walk). Free for DEWA-registered residents on most outlets; some peak-time outlets switched to a paid tariff in 2025.
ADAS (SAE Level 2)(L2 driver assistance)· L2 辅助驾驶
- Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems at SAE Level 2 keep the human as the legal driver at all times - the car assists with steering and speed (ACC, lane-keeping, AEB) but the driver supervises and is fully liable. Every Chinese-EV 'smart driving' system sold today (NIO NOP+, XPeng XNGP, Huawei ADS, BYD God's Eye, Xiaomi Pilot) and Tesla FSD Supervised are Level 2. In the UAE these run under ordinary traffic law (Federal Decree-Law No. 14 of 2024); Dubai Law No. 9 of 2023 governs only true driverless vehicles.
Salik EV Tag (Free RTA Toll Tag)· Salik 电动车通行标签(RTA 免费发放)
- Salik is Dubai's RTA road-toll system; EV owners get the tag itself free on registration, but this is not a toll exemption. The free tag (normally AED 50) is collected at any of the 13 Salik customer-service centres with the vehicle registration card (RTA, 2026). Every gate passage is still charged at the standard AED 4-6 dynamic rate, and from 1 June 2026 a 5% VAT applies to Salik tariffs and tag activation (Salik, 2026). For an imported used Chinese EV, the perk is a small one-time saving, not free roads.
Green Parking (EV Designated Parking)· 绿色停车位(电动车专用免费停车)
- Green Parking refers to RTA's green-painted public bays reserved exclusively for electric vehicles in Dubai, where EV owners park free of charge in those marked slots (RTA, 2026). Supplementary signage marks the reserved areas across key parts of the city. The benefit applies to the EV regardless of where it was bought, so an imported used NIO or BYD qualifies once it holds a UAE registration. It does not cover normal paid parking zones — only the designated green-painted EV bays.
EV Green Charger(DEWA Green Charger)· DEWA 绿色充电桩计划
- EV Green Charger is DEWA's official programme governing both the public charging network and home wallbox approval across Dubai. Any private charger install in Dubai must be applied for and registered under it, and only DEWA-approved electrical contractors may carry out the work (DEWA, 2025). Registered users pay AED 0.70/kWh + VAT for public AC charging and AED 1.20/kWh + VAT for DC (DEWA, 2024). It is the single legal gateway for a Chinese-import EV owner who wants a home charger in Dubai; Abu Dhabi runs a parallel ADDC process instead.
Idle Fee(overstay fee; idle penalty)· 占位费(充满后滞留费)
- An idle fee is the per-minute charge billed when a car stays plugged in after charging finishes, to keep public bays moving. UAE networks give a roughly five-minute grace period, after which fees begin; Tesla Superchargers, for example, charge about AED 2-4 per minute (EVLife / ZigWheels, 2025). Under DEWA's 2025 EV Charging Regulations, operators must disclose any overstay charge transparently alongside the electricity tariff, surcharges and VAT. EVPlus flags that idle fees are real running costs distinct from the kWh price, especially at busy mall and highway hubs.
Shams Dubai Net Metering(Shams Dubai)· Shams Dubai 净计量(屋顶光伏)
- Shams Dubai is DEWA's rooftop-solar net-metering scheme that lets a villa offset grid power, including EV charging, with its own panels. Surplus solar is exported to DEWA's network and credited against future consumption at the same rate, with only the net amount billed monthly (DEWA, 2025). By recent counts it covers over 725 MW across more than 8,400 buildings (DEWA, 2025). For a Chinese-import EV owner it is the route to genuinely low-cost daytime charging, though it needs a DEWA-enrolled consultant and a separate NOC-and-design approval process.
Connected-Car Data Sovereignty (UAE)(vehicle telematics privacy)· 联网汽车数据主权(阿联酋)
- The UAE permits connected Chinese EVs on public roads, unlike the US, which from July 2026 bars vehicles containing Chinese-developed connected-system software (Rest of World, 2026). The UAE imported roughly 192,000 Chinese vehicles in a single recent year and has issued no government ban (CNBC/automobility data, 2025). Personal data is governed by Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 (PDPL), in force since 2 January 2022, which restricts cross-border transfer to "adequate" jurisdictions approved by the UAE Data Office (u.ae, 2024). EVPlus advises buyers concerned about telematics to disable cloud sharing in-car and review the maker's privacy settings.
China Automotive Data Localisation(Interim Provisions on Automotive Data Security)· 中国汽车数据本地化
- Under China's Interim Provisions on Automotive Data Security Management, effective 1 October 2021, "important data" including GPS, mapping and traffic-flow data from sensitive areas (military zones, government sites) must be stored inside China, and cross-border transfer requires a CAC security assessment (Bird & Bird, 2021; FPF, 2021). For a Chinese EV driven in the UAE, this means the carmaker's cloud may still hold telematics on Chinese servers. Buyers near sensitive UAE sites who want to limit this can switch off connectivity, mute the cabin mic and disable location sharing in the vehicle settings.
e-Call Mandate Gap(emergency call system gap)· e-Call 紧急呼叫缺口
- e-Call is a system that automatically alerts UAE police and emergency services in a crash; all new cars sold officially in the UAE must have it (The National, motoring). A grey-imported car often cannot perform e-Call because the unit is not configured for the UAE network (The National). For a Chinese EV brought in outside official channels, this is a genuine functional gap. EVPlus flags e-Call status per vehicle so buyers understand which safety-call features will and will not work locally.
Free Salik Tag (EV perk)· 电动车免费 Salik 标签
- A Dubai RTA incentive giving registered electric-vehicle owners a free Salik toll tag (normally AED 100) on first registration (RTA, 2025). Critically, only the tag device is free — actual toll passages through Salik gates are still charged at the standard rate (Salik, 2025). The earlier full toll-fee exemption for EVs has been withdrawn (Khaleej Times, 2025). For an imported used Chinese EV, you qualify once the car passes Dubai inspection and is registered locally. Abu Dhabi runs its own separate scheme, so the Dubai tag perk does not automatically transfer.
Abu Dhabi 3-Year Registration· 阿布扎比三年注册有效期
- Abu Dhabi grants EV owners a registration validity of up to three years, reducing annual renewal hassle versus Dubai's yearly cycle (Miss Auto UAE, 2025). The emirate also applies 0% customs duty on EVs and offers home-charger installation rebates of up to 30% (Zigwheels, 2025), plus free parking in many Mawaqif zones on weekends and holidays. Incentives are emirate-specific: a Dubai EV's Salik and green-parking perks do not automatically carry into Abu Dhabi, and vice versa, so buyers should match the perk set to where they actually drive and park.
Logistics
Jebel Ali Port(JEA)· 杰贝阿里港
- Largest container port in the Middle East, operated by DP World. Every EVPlus car arrives here by sea from Tianjin via a 30-day RO-RO sailing. We handle bonded warehouse, UAE customs (5% duty), VAT (5%), and onward transport to the Al Aweer partner workshop. You never need to physically visit Jebel Ali.
Tianjin Port· 天津港
- Largest northern Chinese port, ~140 km from Beijing. EVPlus consolidates all UAE-bound cars here after they receive Chinese export plates. From a Beijing or Shanghai used-car purchase, road transport to Tianjin is 1–2 days; the wait for the next RO-RO sailing to Jebel Ali is 7–15 days depending on shipping demand and Red Sea routing.
RO-RO(Roll-on Roll-off)· 滚装船
- Sea-freight method where cars drive on and off the vessel under their own power, rather than being containerised. EVPlus's default mode because (a) it's cheaper than containerised, (b) RO-RO vessels run frequent Tianjin → Jebel Ali rotations, and (c) damage rates are lower because cars don't have to be lifted by crane. Insurance is fully included.
Bill of Lading(B/L)· 提单
- The shipping document that proves ownership of a car in transit. EVPlus issues a B/L copy to the buyer at Step 06 of the buying process, so you can independently track your specific vessel's AIS position from China to UAE. Without a B/L, no car clears UAE customs — guard it like a property title.
Flatbed EV Recovery· 平板拖车救援(电动车专用)
- Flatbed EV recovery means moving a broken-down electric car on a flatbed truck with all four wheels off the ground. Almost all EV makers require this because, even in "neutral", the motor stays coupled to the wheels; rolling them turns the motor into a generator and can feed voltage back into an offline HV system, overheating the power electronics (Midtronics, 2025). A conventional two-wheel hook-and-tow can damage the drivetrain or battery. When arranging UAE recovery, confirm the operator dispatches a flatbed and ideally one experienced with EVs.
HV Spare-Parts Turnaround(grey-import parts lead time)· 高压件备件周期
- The time to source replacement parts for a grey-import vehicle, which has no local dealer parts pipeline. UAE grey imports face limited spare-parts availability and likely delays, as authorised centres are not obligated to support them (Volkswagen ME, grey-market notice; The National). For an HV component on a Chinese EV with no UAE dealer, parts may ship from China over weeks. EVPlus sets expectations on parts lead time per model and prioritises vehicles whose components are more commonly stocked, so a repair does not strand the car for months.
China EV Export Licence (180-day rule)(After-Sales Service Confirmation Letter)· 中国电动车出口许可证(180 天规则)
- From 1 January 2026, China's Ministry of Commerce requires an official export licence for electric passenger cars, issued only to automakers and their authorised companies (Bloomberg, 2025). Any vehicle registered under 180 days must carry an "After-Sales Service Confirmation Letter" from the manufacturer naming the export destination (AutoCango, 2026). This curbs grey-market "parallel exports" and shrinks the Dubai/Sharjah parallel channel. EVPlus sources genuinely USED cars (typically registered well over 180 days in China), so the 180-day clamp is structurally less disruptive to our model than to new-car grey exporters.
BEV Customs-Duty Exemption(0% import duty)· 纯电动车关税豁免
- Pure battery-electric vehicles imported to the UAE are exempt from the standard 5% GCC customs tariff, while hybrids still pay 5% (DubaiWheels, 2025). This green-mobility exemption was confirmed through at least December 2025 (Zigwheels, 2025); for 2026 buyers we verify duty status at signing rather than assume. Note: the 5% VAT and registration costs still apply. Under the EVPlus model these duty/VAT/registration items are quoted at actual cost on signing, not pre-baked into a single AED sticker price.
Process
Reservation· 预订
- On evplus.ae, tapping Reserve holds a listing off-market for 72 hours at no charge. We then run an independent inspection (1–2 days), share the report, and if you accept, we issue a bilingual UAE-law reservation contract with a 50% AED deposit invoice. Reservations are fully refundable through the post-purchase 48-hour cool-off window.
Cool-off window· 冷静期
- The 48-hour window after we buy the car in China (Day 4–5 of the process) during which you can walk away with deposit minus a logistics + admin fee. After the cool-off closes, the car is in shipment and cannot be refunded — but you still get a 7-day reassurance-return window after Dubai delivery.
Inspection· 车检
- EVPlus's 80-point physical check + full battery SOH test + accident-history pull from China's national vehicle-history database, run by an independent partner before you sign the reservation contract. Green Auto Loan(Green Car Finance)· 绿色车贷(电动车专属贷款)
- A green auto loan is a UAE bank financing product reserved for electric, hybrid, and plug-in-hybrid cars, usually priced below standard auto loans. Emirates NBD's Green Auto Loan advertises rates from 2.69% flat per annum for eligible EVs, plus fee discounts (Emirates NBD, 2026); ADCB offers Islamic Green Car Finance with rates varying by customer segment (ADCB, 2026). Whether a bank will finance a privately imported used Chinese EV (versus a dealer-supplied car) varies case by case, so confirm eligibility with the lender before committing.
Grey Import (Parallel Import)· 平行进口 / 灰色市场进口
- A grey import is a vehicle brought into the UAE outside the official brand distributor — the model EVPlus supplies, as most of these Chinese brands have no UAE agent. Such cars carry no manufacturer regional warranty and cannot be serviced by authorised dealers of that brand (VW Middle East, 2024). However, since 2016 the UAE Ministry of Economy allows any car to be serviced at independent ESMA-approved centres without losing third-party warranty rights (Ministry of Economy, 2016). For Chinese-spec EVs the practical path is qualified independent EV workshops, not the agency.
Single Line Diagram (SLD)(SLD; wiring diagram)· 单线图(配电接线图)
- A Single Line Diagram is the one-line electrical schematic a DEWA-approved contractor submits to get a home charger authorised. For an apartment it is bundled with a load calculation, charger model specs, site photos and the Owners Association NOC; for a villa it accompanies the distribution-board load assessment (DEWA, 2025). The contractor prepares and submits it; the owner supplies Emirates ID and vehicle registration. It is the technical document that proves the proposed circuit can carry a sustained 7-22 kW charging load without overloading the building supply.
Owners Association NOC(OA NOC; building NOC)· 业主委员会无异议证明
- An Owners Association NOC is the no-objection letter an apartment resident must obtain before DEWA will approve a private charger. To get it the resident typically proves exclusive use of a designated parking bay, appoints a DEWA-approved contractor who provides a wiring diagram, and signs an indemnity covering future maintenance (DEWA / EVLife, 2025). Villa owners with their own parking and supply skip this step entirely. It is usually the slowest and most uncertain part of apartment charging, because approval depends on the building's management rather than DEWA.
ICEing(charging-bay blocking)· 燃油车占用充电位
- ICEing is when a non-charging vehicle, usually a petrol car, occupies an EV charging bay and blocks access. Dubai restricts charging bays to EVs that are actively charging and monitors them with CCTV and sensors, notifying violations by SMS or the RTA app (RTA / Dubai guidance, 2025). A specific UAE fine figure for ICEing is not published, so the deterrent is enforcement and etiquette rather than a confirmed penalty. Good practice, including not blocking a bay once your own car is full, keeps the still-thin UAE network usable for everyone.
GCC-Spec vs China-Spec(non-GCC spec)· 海湾规格 vs 中国规格
- GCC-spec cars are factory-built for Gulf heat with oversized radiators and high-capacity AC rated for 50C-plus summers, and carry warranties honoured at official UAE dealers (Arabity, 2026). Imported China-spec EVs are engineered for China's milder, regulated market and use the GB/T charging plug, needing an adapter for the UAE's CCS2 chargers (SteerwellAuto, 2025). They are not covered by local factory warranty, so a third-party warranty is usually required (DubiCars, 2025). EVPlus is transparent: these are China-spec used cars, and we tell you the cooling, charging-adapter and warranty implications before you buy.
Source Platform
Dongchedi(DCD)· 懂车帝
- ByteDance-owned vertical for new and used cars in China — one of the two platforms EVPlus's daily 06:00 GST scraper sweeps for inventory. Dongchedi's used-car listings are dealer-led, which gives us a cleaner ownership-history trail than peer-to-peer listings on competing platforms.
Che168(Autohome Used)· 车 168
- Used-car arm of Autohome, the dominant Chinese auto-content portal. The second platform EVPlus's scraper covers. che168 tends to have higher absolute listing volume than Dongchedi but a wider quality range; our inspection step is what bridges the gap.
Service & Aftercare
EV-Rated Tyre· 电动车专用轮胎
- An EV-rated tyre is built for the extra weight, instant torque, and quiet-cabin demands of electric cars, with reinforced construction and heat-resistant compounds. Because EVs are several hundred kilograms heavier and deliver torque instantly, they wear tyres roughly 20% faster than comparable petrol cars in normal use (Recharged, 2025). UAE conditions — 50°C tarmac, sand, and long high-speed highway runs — add heat and accelerate that wear further. Correct pressure and choosing a high-heat-resistance EV tyre are the main defences; running even a few PSI low scrubs the shoulders.
HV-Certified Repair Workshop(high-voltage EV workshop)· 高压电认证维修厂
- A workshop staffed by technicians trained and certified to work safely on high-voltage (HV) EV battery and drive systems, typically a Level 3 HV safety qualification (TUV SUD, 2025). In the UAE, EVs need specialised technicians and diagnostic tools, and not every workshop can handle HV battery systems (GIG Gulf, 2025; EV-Experts.ae, 2025). For grey-import Chinese EVs without a UAE dealer, the pool of capable shops is smaller still, so EVPlus verifies HV-repair access for each model before recommending a purchase.
EV Total-Loss Threshold(battery write-off risk)· 电动车全损临界点
- The point at which an EV's repair cost exceeds its market value, triggering an insurance write-off. The HV battery is 30-50% of an EV's value, and even minor damage can require a full pack replacement (Recharged, 2025; WPInsure, 2026). In the UAE, battery replacement runs about AED 50,000-100,000 (InsuranceHub.ae, 2025), so a moderate accident on an older Chinese EV can total the car. This is why UAE EV insurance premiums run roughly 20-35% above comparable petrol models (Gulf News, 2025).
Brand-Exit / Orphaned-Car Risk(cloud-dependent feature loss)· 品牌退场 / 孤儿车风险
- The risk that a carmaker collapses or withdraws, cutting off cloud services and OTA updates for cars already sold. Analysts forecast only about 15 of China's roughly 129 EV brands will remain financially viable by 2030 (AlixPartners, 2025), and over 400 brands have already exited since 2018 (EVBoosters, 2025). When Fisker went bankrupt, owners lost cloud access, remote features, traffic and OTA updates, though cars still drove and charged (Autoevolution, 2025). EVPlus steers buyers toward higher-volume brands (BYD, NIO) to reduce orphaning risk.
DEWA Green Charger Network· DEWA 绿色充电桩网络
- Dubai Electricity and Water Authority's public EV charging network, with a registered RTA EV account auto-created on registration (DEWA, 2025). Free public charging for non-commercial users ended in January 2025 under UAE Cabinet Decision No. 81 of 2024; users now pay roughly AED 0.29/kWh on AC and higher on DC fast chargers (Shory, 2025). Most Dubai DC chargers use the CCS2 plug, so a China-spec GB/T EV needs an adapter. Abu Dhabi runs its own ADDC/Mobility tariff, reported around AED 0.70/kWh AC (Abu Dhabi Mobility, 2025).
